Abstract
An optical isolator includes a magneto-optical substrate exhibiting the Faraday effect and a pair of photonic crystal polarizers formed on opposite surfaces of the magneto-optical substrate and oriented relative to each other. The photonic crystal polarizers permit propagation of a selected polarization component of an input beam.
