Abstract
A method is disclosed for forming an article that includes the steps of filling a mold with a solid or particulate material, inserting a tool into the mold with a portion of the tool extending from the mold, and striking the tool with an impact ram to adiabatically coalesce the material in the mold to form an object having the shape of the mold. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.
