Abstract

The present invention provides a ceramic catalyst body having more excellent catalytic performance using a ceramic carrier capable of directly supporting the catalyst component. A ceramic catalyst body is obtained by directly supporting a noble metal catalyst such as Pt on a ceramic carrier made by substituting at least one kind among the constituent elements of cordierite that constitutes the substrate ceramic, for example Al, with W, a compound containing no chlorine, for example dinitrodiammine platinum, is used as a starting material of the noble metal catalyst. It is then possible to prevent the residual chlorine from suppressing support of the catalyst, thereby increasing the quantity of the catalyst supported and to improve the catalyst performance.
