Methods and assay kits are provided for assaying for a measurable biological response inducible by activation of Fc.gamma.RI-expressing cells by immune complexes comprising shed antigen and anti-shed antigen antibody of an IgG subtype capable of binding Fc.gamma.RI. An assay kit comprises shed antigen, anti-shed antigen antibody of an IgG subtype capable of binding Fc.gamma.RI, and Fc.gamma.RI-expressing cells.
