Abstract
Wireless, battery-less, asset sensor and communication system (10) comprising battery-less sensor (40) integrally housed within housing (41) and reader device (20) integrally housed within housing (21). Reader (20) is coupled to handheld portable data collector (PDA) (60) and wirelessly transmits a time varying signal S.sub.1. When this signal is directed at battery-less sensor (40), battery-less sensor (40) derives power from the wirelessly transmitted signal, powers up, then measures/senses and converts analog signals (102) from an asset such as machine M to digital asset data (104). Digital asset data and optionally stored asset information is formatted to modulate the transmitted signal (S.sub.1) for transmitting asset data and information back to the reader (20) wherein the modulated transmitted signal (S.sub.2) is demodulated and communicated to the PDC (60).
