The invention describes a method of preparing alpha- or beta-tricalcium phosphate, brushite (CaHPO.sub.4.2H.sub.2O), calcium pyrophosphate (Ca.sub.2P.sub.2O.sub.7) or hydroxyapatite (Ca.sub.5(PO.sub.4).sub.3(OH)) or mixtures thereof in the form of morsels or granules via gelatin processing. These morsels or granules can be used as bone or tooth fillers or bone substitutes in applications, especially when higher rates of resorption or taking part in the bone remodelling processes of the implanted material are desired.
