Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to provide an automatic, continuous measuring device for a ventricle volume that is able to measure blood conductivity and parallel conductance, which are regarded as necessary for the calculation of ventricular volume from the conductance measured, using a conductance catheter inserted into the ventricle without special procedures such as blood sampling and saline infusion. An automatic, continuous measuring device for a ventricle volume with the following characteristics provides the means to solve the above-mentioned purpose: it is furnished with a multifunction catheter (2) to be introduced into the ventricle and a power supply unit (5) to supply the necessary current to the above-mentioned multifunction catheter (2); and that the above-mentioned multifunction catheter (2) is composed of two parts--a conductance catheter (3) containing multiple segments (31s.sub.1 to 31s.sub.5) interposed with electrodes (32d.sub.1 to 32d.sub.6) at fixed intervals with an arbitrary high-frequency weak current passing between the two end electrodes (32d.sub.1 and 32d.sub.6), and a electrode (4) for measuring blood conductivity placed in close proximity to one of the above-mentioned multiple electrodes (32d.sub.1 to 32d.sub.6).
