Spun-bond nonwoven material made of continuous filaments or fibers, whereby the continuous filaments or fibers are multi-component filaments, in particular bi-component filaments, with a low-melting component on the outer surface. The spun-bond nonwoven material is thermally bonded in a calender. The spun-bond nonwoven material has a mass per unit area of more than 40 g/m.sup.2.
