The present invention relates to methods of making a mouse model of human anti-GBM disease, to mice produced by such methods, and to human antibodies and antigen-binding portions thereof that specifically bind to .alpha.3(IV) NC1 collagen. The present invention also relates to compositions comprising the above antibodies or portions thereof and methods of using such compositions for diagnosis, and to nucleic acid molecules encoding the above antibodies or portions thereof. The present invention further relates to methods of isolating compounds/peptides that specifically binds anti-.alpha.3(IV) NC1 antibodies, pharmaceutical compositions comprising these compounds/peptides and methods of using such compositions for diagnosis and treatment.
