A microlens array including a substrate having a plurality of photo sensors located therein, a microlens layer located over the substrate, and a dielectric film located over the microlens layer. The plurality of microlenses are separated by a plurality of gaps and the dielectric film conforms to the microlens layer, thereby filling the plurality of gaps.
