Provided are treatment fluids comprising an aqueous base fluid and a methyl ester sulfonate surfactant. In some embodiments, the treatment fluids exhibit viscoelastic behavior due, at least in part, to the association of at least a portion of the methyl ester sulfonate surfactant into a plurality of micellar structures.
