Abstract
An apparatus and method for improving print quality in a rotary offset press includes a variable speed servo motor for selectively applying a driving or braking action to a form roller in contact with a plate cylinder. The servo motor may be directly coupled to the form roller by a belt drive independent of the press drive and controlled to maintain a selected surface speed differential between the plate cylinder and the form roller during printing.
