Abstract
A system and method account for returned pharmaceuticals. In one embodiment, a user receives the pharmaceutical product and inputs a product identifier such as a national drug code (NDC) into the system. The system retrieves a list of possible packaging forms from a database, and the user selects the form that has been returned. The user enters a 'handling quantity' of these packages, and the system determines the total quantity of pieces that were returned in terms of a certain predetermined unit. In some operational modes (based, for example, on a user's notation that the package has been opened), partial-unit entries can be made either in the form of an exact number of sub-units, or in the form of a percentage, sub-unit decimal, or fraction of the package that is full.
