Programmable health monitoring devices, systems, and methods for the monitoring of medical parameters are disclosed. An illustrative health monitoring device can include reward circuitry including a reward algorithm or routine for encouraging the monitoring of medical parameters, and a communications interface for transmitting and/or receiving reward data and/or medical data back and forth between the health monitoring device and one or more other devices in communication with the health monitoring device. A display panel can be configured to display various medical and reward parameters, including the user' current and/or past test readings as well as any rewards or incentives earned for complying with the one or more goals determined by the reward algorithm or routine. A user interface can be utilized to program various reward criteria and/or reward codes into the health monitoring device as well as perform other functions.
