Abstract
A currency counter for counting currency documents, each currency document having disposed thereon or therein coded data including a number of coded data portions. Each coded data portion is indicative of an identity of the currency document. The counter includes an input for receiving a number of currency documents to be counted, an output for providing counted currency documents and a feed mechanism for transporting currency documents from the input to the output along a feed path. A sensor is provided for sensing at least one coded data portion for each currency document transported along the feed path. A processor determines, from the at least one sensed coded data portion, a sensed identity for each currency document, and uses this to determine a value for each currency document.
