A catalyst useful for hydrogenation of aromatic compounds to produce hydrogenated cyclic compound, the catalyst comprising from 4 to 10 wt. % Ni and 0.2 up to about 0.9 wt. % Cu deposited on a transition alumina support having a BET surface area from about 40 to 180 m.sup.2/g and pore volume from about 0.3 to about 0.8 cc/g.
