Computer-implemented methods for allocating risks from major developments are described. The methods include identifying one or more future major developments with economic impact; identifying a parameter to indicate that each of the developments has or has not occurred; creating a contractual instrument that is based on the occurrence or non-occurrence of the one or more major developments; and trading the instrument. A contractual instrument based upon on an occurrence or non-occurrence of one or more major developments in electronic form and tradable in the methods is also described.
