A method of forming a base for a paper punch is disclosed as including the steps of (a) forming two generally U-shaped plates of a first metal or metal alloy, and (b) fixedly engaging the generally U-shaped plates with a core part of a second metal or metal alloy, in which the plates are in direct contact with the core part.
