/g and a high mean pore diameter of greater than 200 Å, wherein the catalyst composition comprises a cobalt component, a molybdenum component, a phosphorus component and a support consisting essentially of alumina. The catalyst composition is highly active toward the hydrodesulfurization of an olefin-containing feedstock having a sulfur concentration while being selective toward the hydrogenation of the olefins contained in the feedstock and is used in a novel process for the selective desulfurization of an olefin-containing feedstock.
