Abstract
The invention relates to devices and methods for measuring a concentration of a biomass suspended in a medium. Embodiments of the device include a substrate capable of being immersed in the medium, at least two electrodes integrated in the substrate, and a processing and control circuit electromagnetically coupled to the at least two electrodes. The processing and control circuit is configured to apply an electrical potential to the at least two electrodes, the applied electrical potential generating a stationary electric charge that leads to the appearance of an electrical double layer on a surface of one of the at least two electrodes and that causes a biomass electrostatic adhesion on the surface, measure a change in capacitance of the electrical double layer in response to the biomass electrostatic adhesion, and determine the concentration of the biomass using a calibration curve that correlates the change in capacitance with the concentration.
