Abstract

Methods of making a reduced-density, coated particulate comprising the steps of: providing a first flowing stream comprising particulates coated with a coating material selected from the group consisting of a tackifying agent and a resin-type material; providing a second flowing stream comprising a density reducing material wherein the density reducing material is a solid material with a size that is greater than about half of the size of the coated particulates; combining the first and second flowing streams to create a third flowing stream wherein the combination of the first and second flowing streams causes the density reducing material to adhere to the coating material on the particulates so as to create reduced-density, coated particulates. The density reducing material may include solid polystyrene divinylbenzene beads.
