The invention relates to a windshield wiper device (1) having a wiper motor (11) that can be actuated by means of a control unit (12) and that actuates a wiper (101, 102) in order to wipe a predetermined wiping area. The control unit (12) adjusts the wiping area of the wiper (101, 102) depending on an environmental and/or wiper parameter (13, 14). The invention further relates to a method for operating such a windshield wiper device (1).
