Abstract
A loyalty gateway (130) obtains, from a point of sale device (120), transaction information including purchase information and a transaction account identifier corresponding to a transaction instrument (115) of the customer. The loyalty gateway (130) searches a database (135) for the transaction account identifier and, if not located therein, stores the transaction account identifier in the database (135) in association with the purchase information. In a subsequent transaction, the loyalty gateway (130) obtains the transaction account identifier and a mobile device identifier corresponding to a mobile device (110) of the customer and stores the mobile device identifier in the database (135) in association with the transaction account identifier. The loyalty gateway (130) provides to the customer, based on the purchase information already stored in association with the transaction account identifier, a loyalty benefit such as a free item, a discount on a purchase, or loyalty points applicable to a purchase.
