Abstract

A computing apparatus is configured to receive, from a transaction handler of a payment network, an authorization request for a payment transaction. The authorization request identifies a full transaction amount, as well as information identifying the merchant and the cardholder involved in the transaction. The computing apparatus is configured to determine the cardholder's eligibility to receive a reward based on information provided in the authorization request, as well as offer information stored in association with the account information of the cardholder. When the cardholder is eligible for a reward, the computing apparatus deducts a reward amount from the transaction amount to authorize a partial amount for the transaction and provides a partial authorization response for the payment transaction. The partial authorization response may optionally include a description of the offer, the reward and/or an identifier of the offer.
