The present invention relates to a sheet composite of a metal oxide active material and a fibrous carbon that can yield an electrode or an electrochemical element which achieves output property and high energy density, as well as a manufacturing method thereof. The present invention is a sheet composite of a composite material of a metal compound capable of occluding and releasing lithium supported on a carbon material molded in a sheet-shape with a fibrous carbon binder, wherein the fibrous carbon binder of the composite material comprises any of carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, and carbon fibers having a specific surface area of less than 600 m2/g.
