Abstract

A method for the adhesion of a layer of fluorosilicone rubber which is curable using a non-hydrosilylation curing process to a layer of silicone rubber which contains no perfluoroalkyl groups and which is curable using a non-hydrosilylation curing process, comprising the steps of:

    (i) incorporating either a hydrosilylation catalyst or a siloxane containing at least two silicon bonded hydrogen groups into the fluorosilicone rubber composition prior to curing and;(ii) incorporating the other of the hydrosilylation catalyst or the siloxane containing at least two silicon bonded hydrogen groups into the alternative silicone rubber composition prior to curing;(iii) preparing a mixture compound comprising the products of step (i) and step(ii) and having a weight ratio of the product of step (i) to the product of step (ii) in the range of 40:60 to 60:40;(iv) forming the products of step (i), (ii), and step (iii) into required shapes;(v) bringing the shaped products of step (iv) into contact with the product of step(iii) between the product of step (i) and product of step (ii); and(vi) adhering the shaped products in contact with each other together by curing the products of step (v).
