Abstract
A scanning optical system that can be made compact and can provide a sufficiently small beam diameter on a surface to be scanned is provided. In a scanning optical system including a galvanometer mirror that reflects and deflects a light beam emitted from a light source and a fθ lens that focuses the deflected light beam on a surface to be scanned, the fθ lens includes, in order from the galvanometer mirror side, a first lens which is a spherical lens having a positive refractive power, a second lens which is a spherical lens having a negative refractive power, and a third lens which is a spherical lens having a positive refractive power. The fθ lens satisfies conditional expression (1) below:
