Abstract
A power unit includes an engine, an electric-powered generator configured to regenerate power and to provide power assistance, a stepped or stepless transmission mechanism configured to perform a shift change operation during transmission of rotational power output from the engine and the electric-powered generator, an output shaft configured to output the rotational power as a driving force, a first clutch configured to transmit the rotational power or to disconnect the transmission of the rotational power from at least one of the engine and the electric-powered generator to the output shaft, and a battery configured to supply power to the electric-powered generator to drive the electric-powered generator and to store power generated by the electric-powered generator. During the shift change operation by the transmission mechanism, electric-powered generator is driven to add torque to the engine in a direction of increasing synchronization with the rotation of the output shaft.
