Abstract

A microwave thermometer for accurate and non-invasive measurement of subsurface temperature is described. The microwave radiometer measures the brightness temperature of the specimen. In one example, the system is calibrated using an antenna aimed at the air with another antenna aimed at a subject. This approach dynamically compensates for variable drift of hardware components. An accuracy of 2° F. in 61% of cases may be achieved testing the device on phantoms.
