Abstract

An image acquisition apparatus comprises a modifying unit that modifies a relative position between a specimen and a plurality of reference planes. The modifying unit modifies the relative position such that a minimum value of a distance in an optical axis direction between one of a plurality of positions within the specimen in which the plurality of reference planes exist following modification of the relative position and one of a plurality of positions within the specimen in which the plurality of reference planes exist prior to modification of the relative position is equal to or smaller than a first threshold, and a plurality of imaging units acquire a plurality of image data corresponding to the plurality of reference planes in each relative position.
