The present invention comprises a method and an apparatus for controlling power supply to reduce power consumption in a display of a wrist wearable device. One challenge is to avoid turning the display unnecessarily on. For example, when a user is running, the user's wrist swings during the running so that the display is occasionally in a predetermined orientation. The invention enables activation of the display only if the display stays in this orientation longer than a predetermined check period. If the user, however, wants to watch the display while running, the display is turned on when the user holds his/her arm in such position that the predetermined orientation of the display is detected twice and the later orientation detection is based on measurements which are made after the predetermined check period.
