Abstract
Methods of producing an alkali metal carbonates are provided. Aspects of the methods include concentrating a bicarbonate containing aqueous medium to generate a bicarbonate rich product and then combining the concentrated bicarbonate rich product with an alkali metal ion source, optionally in the presence of a source of CO2, under conditions sufficient to product an alkali metal carbonate, e.g., sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate. Also provided herein are systems that find use in practicing the subject methods.
