Abstract

A luminaire comprising a base, an optic attached to the base, a heat sink integrally molded within the base, and a heat-generating element comprising a light source in thermal communication with the heat sink. The light source may be positioned such that light is emitted thereby into an optical chamber defined by the first housing. A second housing may comprise channels formed by opposing pairs of fin guards. The heat sink may comprise fin assemblies connected along a perimeter of a heat-generating element contacting portion of the heat sink. An enclosable region may be formed between fin guards that has a knurled portion on an outer surface thereof. A proximal edge of each fin assembly may be positioned adjacent to an outer surface of the first housing, and a distal edge thereof may be positioned coextensive with a respective channel and substantially exposed to the environment external to the luminaire.
