Abstract

A system includes an RF wireless mesh network having a number of RF nodes, the RF nodes including low-speed RF nodes, multi-speed RF nodes, and a high-speed RF node. The low-speed RF nodes communicate at a low-speed data rate among the RF nodes. The multi-speed nodes communicate at the high-speed data rate with other multi-speed RF nodes and with the high-speed RF node, and at a low-speed data rate with the low-speed RF nodes. The high-speed RF node communicates at the high-speed data rate. A multi-speed node receives an unsolicited broadcast message transmitted from the high-speed RF node at the high-speed data rate without prior negotiations, and transmits the broadcast message to at least one of the RF nodes at a data rate that is an optimal speed for the receiving RF node.
