Abstract

A gaming system includes a player interface and a game controller. The player interface includes a display for displaying a display matrix and a game play mechanism. The game controller selects at least one symbol from a source set of symbols based at least in part on at least one predetermined rule, generates a set of player selectable symbols including the selected symbol, displays the set of player selectable symbols on the display, receives, from the game play mechanism, a player selection of a symbol from the set of player selectable symbols, and adds the player selected symbol to a first reel of a plurality of reels. Each reel includes a plurality of symbol positions, and each symbol position selectively stores a respective symbol. After adding the player selected symbol, the game controller spins the plurality of reels to evaluate a game outcome.
