The invention relates to a binder composition for the cold forming of metal ore pellets, wherein the binder composition comprises a hydraulic binder component and additives, wherein the hydraulic binder component has a fineness of at least D95<40 μm, D50<12 μm, D10<5 μm (determined by laser diffraction particle size analyzer) with a Blaine fineness between 6500 and 9000 cm2/g wherein the CaO content is >62.5 wt.-% and the content of C3S is >60 wt.-%, preferably >65 wt.-%.
