The present disclosure generally relates to a method for providing a non-uniform barrier coating on a hollow container (100) comprising molded pulp. The method comprises depositing a polymeric powder on the interior container surface in at least one predetermined portion (105a-d) of the hollow container and subsequently treating the container with heat or irradiation. The present disclosure also relates to a hollow container (100) comprising a non-uniform polymeric powder coating.
