Abstract

Methods of making thin abrasive cut-off wheels with low pinhole occurrence are disclosed. An abrasive cut-off wheel has a thickness of less than or equal to 1.6 millimeters. It comprises at least one reinforcing scrim and abrasive particles retained in a phenolic binder. The abrasive particles comprise first and second triangular abrasive platelets. The first triangular platelets have a first average maximum side length and a first total weight. The second triangular platelets have a second average maximum side length and a second total weight. The first and second total weights combined comprise at least 30 weight percent of the abrasive cut-off wheel. The ratio of the first average maximum side length to the second average maximum side length is 1.25:1 to 5:1, and the ratio of first total weight to the second total weight is 1:2 to 5:1.
