Abstract

A method of predicting a far-field radiated acoustic field of an object in a fluid is provided. The method includes providing an array of acoustic sensors, wherein the array is a linear array, positioning the array in the fluid proximate to the object, radiating into the fluid, by the object, one or more acoustic signals, measuring, by the acoustic sensors, the acoustic signals, and predicting, by one or more processors, the far-field radiated acoustic field of the object using the measurements of the acoustic signals. The positioning of the array includes orienting the array in a direction that is substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the object and positioning the array in a near-field region of the object.
