Abstract

A system comprising a first reactor, a second reactor fluidly connected with the first reactor, and a liquid-solid separator fluidly connected with the second reactor. The first reactor is operable to produce an aqueous bicarbonate solution from captured carbon dioxide (CO₂), and an aqueous alkaline solution. The second reactor is configured to produce hydrogen gas and a mixture comprising metal carbonate agglomerates by contacting the aqueous bicarbonate solution from the first reactor with zero-valent metal particulates. The metal carbonate agglomerates comprise a carbonate of the metal on a surface of the zero-valent metal particulates, and the zero-valent metal particulates comprise a zero-valent metal. The liquid-solid separator is configured to receive the mixture from the second reactor and separate the metal carbonate agglomerates from a recovered aqueous alkaline solution.
