Abstract

A light scanning apparatus includes a deflecting unit deflecting a light flux from a light source to scan a scanned surface with light flux in a main scanning direction, and an optical system including a first optical element. The first optical element includes a transmissive surface transmitting a first light flux deflected by deflecting unit at a first timing to guide first light flux to scanned surface, and a reflective surface totally reflecting a second light flux deflected by deflecting unit at a second timing different from first timing to guide second light flux to a light receiving element. The reflective surface is arranged on the same side as light source with respect to a sub-scanning cross section including an optical axis of optical system, and the following inequality is satisfied:
