An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: an aerosol-generating substrate including a hollow tubular substrate element having a multi-layered peripheral wall defining a longitudinal airflow channel, the peripheral wall being formed of a plurality of overlapping layers of homogenised tobacco material, the peripheral wall having a density of at least 200 milligrams per cubic centimetre, and the longitudinal airflow channel having a diameter of at least 3 millimetres; and a downstream section provided downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate.
