Abstract

A process for preparing methanol on the basis of a synthesis gas stream having a hydrogen component and a carbon oxide component, wherein at least one of the components is produced at least partly in an electrolyser. The synthesis gas stream is converted to a crude methanol stream. Methanol is separated thermally from the crude methanol stream by distillations. Waste heat generated in the electrolyser is transferred to a circulating heat pump medium of a heat pump system, which results in at least partial evaporation of the heat pump medium, then the heat pump medium is compressed, and the heat released by the heat pump medium via at least partial condensation is transferred to a liquid medium by indirect heat transfer, and the heat transferred from the heat pump system to the liquid medium is utilized at least partly for the evaporation of the methanol-containing stream in the distillation evaporator.
