A novel superhydrophobic sustainable coating material was fabricated from kraft lignin polymerized with silsesquioxane through polycondensation reaction. The reaction under the conditions of pH 11, 60° C., and 48 hours, and a 1:1.2 mmol ratio of SKL/WAPMSS were found to be the optimum for obtaining the polymer, WSL10 with higher Si content. During powder wettability investigation, the optimised sample demonstrated a superhydrophobicity with null mass gain. This characteristic of the copolymer is due to low surface energy and spherical molecule shape, which was the result of an abundance of Si—O—C/Si—O—Si bonds.
