Abstract

Azo dyes of the formula ##STR1## wherein D is an aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic diazo component radical, R is hydrogen or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, heterocyclyl or amino, R' is quaternized nitrogen-containing heterocyclyl, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or cyano, R.sub.2 is optionally substituted alkyl, aryl or heterocyclyl, Y is a divalent bridge member, K.sub.1.sup..sym. is optionally substituted ammonium, hydrazinium or quaternized nitrogen-containing heterocyclyl, m is 1 or 2, r is 0 or 1, and A.sup..crclbar. is an anion. The Y.sub.r -K.sub.1.sup..sym. group is preferably attached to the nitrogen atom of the pyridone ring or to the diazo component radical D. These dyes are well-suited for dyeing and printing textiles which consist of or contain fibers of polyacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile copolymers as well as polyamides and polyesters that have been modified to contain acid groups. The obtained dyeings are level and exhibit good fastness to light and wet treatments as well as organic solvents and are stable to boiling and pH conditions.
