Abstract
Under light load condition wherein only selected cylinders are fired or operate, low temperature exhaust gas gathering in an exhaust chamber for the unused cylinders is introduced into an intake chamber for the firing cylinders thereby to allow the firing cylinders to produce a less amount of NO.sub.x.
