Abstract
Although small enough to fit in a purse, this flashlight operates on six volts using a full-size flashlight bulb and casts a bright and quite-uniform beam of light, primarily for brief uses at relatively short range. The uniformity of the beam is obtained by a novel optical system, that includes an unsilvered, preferably generally parabolic reflector and a beam-narrowing lens. The combination of compactness and brightness is obtained by novel arrangement of the bulb and four penlight cells within the battery case, enhanced by the geometry of the reflector and lens.
