Abstract
In machine tools, for selective utilization of fixed tools, or tools which are adapted to be driven and rotated, a common tool retainer is provided in the toolhead. The toolhead comprises a spur gear or similar driver, or comprises drive components for operatively engaging a rotating tool. The toolhead is adapted to be rotated about an axis which is disposed at an angle of 45.degree. with respect to the main axis and the transverse axis of the machine tool and which intersects the line of intersection of the tool carrier planes which extend parallel to the longitudinal and transverse planes. A journal arrangement for the driven tools is installed in the tool retainer itself, or in the toolhead.
