Abstract
A thread forming method and apparatus particularly suited for cutting tapered threads on round stock. The apparatus power feeds and rotates retreating die elements and includes mechanisms for quickly extending and retracting the die elements at the start and end of each threading cycle to achieve high production rates. The die elements include a face cutting edge which efficiently removes excess stock ideally in a single pass over the workpiece.
