A composition useful in the manufacture of cable comprising: (i) a crosslinkable thermoplastic polymer; (ii) a metal hydrate flame retardant compound; and (iii) an organic peroxide crosslinking compound, which decomposes at a temperature of at least about 140.degree. C., but below the decomposition temperature of the polymer.
